The Armenia freestyle wrestling cadet team has returned with one gold, two silver and one bronze medal from the European Championship held in Faenza, Italy.

Head coach of the Armenia cadet team Arshak Hayrapetyan summed up the championship in a conversation with the ANOC press service.

“I’m pleased with the wrestlers’ performances. Of course, there were some mistakes, but in general, I’m pleased though we could do more. There will be changes in the team before the World Championship, but the medalists of the European Games will surely take part in it. Lyova Gevorgyan at 92 kg lived up our expectations. His medal was expected. Gevorgyan wrestled in the final for the third time. Last year he could win and also qualify for the Youth Olympic Games but only this year managed to have a volitional victory over the Russian wrestler,” the coach said.

As usual after an important tournament Arshak Hayrapetyan was speaking with a croak. “This time I started speaking with a croak a little earlier, the reason was my nervousness,” noted the coach with a smile.

Let us recall the Armenia freestyle wrestling team had joined the European Championship with 9 wrestlers and had also won 2 silver and one bronze medal.

Harutyun Hovhannisyan (48 kg) and Grenik Asatryan (60 kg) had become silver medalists and Menua Yaribekyan (71 kg) had won a bronze medal.
