Weightlifting has officially been included in the program of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games to be held in Paris, France in 2024. It was announced after an agreement between the International Testing Agency (ITA) and International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
In March the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee conditionally included weightlifting in the Paris 2024 program. Now the ITA will be responsible for doping risks assessment, testing and other issues. A special attention will be paid to the storage of doping tests and their re-analysis.
In June of 2017 IOC President Thomas Bach informed if doping scandals were continuous in weightlifting the sport would be removed from the Paris 2024 program. Recently the IWF has changed the tactics of doping control and applies a new program in Olympic qualifying tournaments.
