The World Fencing Championships of Cadets and juniors were held in Torun, Poland from April 8-14.
The Armenia team joined the championship with 6 athletes, Seda Gevorgyan (foil), Svetlana Yesayan (épée), Hamlet Mkhoyan (foil), Alik Navasardyan (épée), Hovhannes Muradyan (épée) and Narek Avagyan (épée).
Alik Navasardyan performed better than other Armenian representatives having 2 wins in groups stage and passed to the next round where he also celebrated one victory but dropped out of the competition. It should be noted that the épée event of the World Championship had brought together 140 fencers.
There was a struggle in all the weight classes that made this year’s championship beautiful.
The European current champion suffered his second successive defeat by touché.
Tadevos Poghosyan and Mikayel Mikayelyan became the winners of an international tournament.
40 athletes in different age groups took part in the championship.
The second leg will take place in Macedonia on July 18.
In the final Artsakh’s opponent will be the winner of Urartu vs Aragats game.
