Tokyo governor dislikes IOC’s offer

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike has disapproved the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) offer to move the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games marathon and race walking events to Sapporo. She didn’t like that the IOC has such plans because of heat.

“It was an unexpected statement. If they need a cooler place why not holding the events on the Northern Territories,” Yuriko Koike said.
In Japan a part of the Kuril Islands is called “the Northern Territories” which Japan doesn’t recognize as Russia’s territory.
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be held in the Japanese capital from July 24 to August 9.
