Cadet European Championship: Harutyun Hovhannisyan wins silver medal

Armenia’s representative Harutyun Hovhannisyan (48 kg) has become a silver medalist of the Cadet European Freestyle Wrestling Championship underway in Faenza, Italy.

After prevailing over Russian (10:0), Belarusian (10:0) and Azerbaijani (3:2) wrestlers Hovhannisyan reached the final where lost 6:7 to Macedonian Besir Alili.

Hayk Abrahamyan (55 kg) suffered defeat 6:8 by an Azerbaijani opponent.

Grenik Asatryan (60 kg) and Lyova Gevorgyan (92 kg) who started the struggle on June 22 have qualified for the finals.

On June 23 Grenik Asatryan will fight for a gold medal against Azerbaijani Sabir Jafarov and Lyova Gevorgyan’s rival will be Russia’s Islam Kartoev.

On June 23 Menua Yaribekyan (71 kg) will spend a repechage fight and in case of winning it will struggle for a bronze medal.

The Armenia freestyle wrestling cadet team has joined the European Championship with 10 wrestlers.
