Bucharest 2019: Aslanyan and Kalachyan continue the struggle The Armenia teams have won yet 2 medals

Today, on the last competition day wrestlers of 60, 67, 72, 82 and 97 kg will enter the mat for final and repechage bouts. Yesterday Armenia had representatives in all 5 weight categories.

At kg Gevorg Gharibyan started the struggle from the 1/8 finals where his opponent was Ukrainian Lenur Temirov. Gevorg conceded a point to the opponent, 5:6, later the Ukrainian lost, too and Gevorg dropped out of the repechage round. In the qualification round of 67kg weight class Karen Aslanyan’s rival was Poland’s Gevorg Sahakyan. It was a tough bout; the wrestlers failed to make any trick and Karen lost 0:4 to Gevorg after warnings. Afterwards Sahakyan reached the finals which gave a chance to Aslanyan to continue the struggle for a bronze medal. In the repechage round Aslanyan’s opponent will be Belarusian Yaroslav Kardash. If Aslanyan overcomes him in the second repechage bout he will meet Bulgaria’s Konstantin Stas. In case of winning the Bulgarian wrestler he will wrestle again Serb Mate Nemesh for bronze.

At 72 kg Hrant Kalachyan begin from the 1/8 finals and lost to Russia’s Abuyazid Mantsigov by fall. The Russian wrestler qualified for the finals which gave a right to Kalachyan to continue the competition. In the repechage bout Kalachyan’s opponent will be Hungarian Robert Fritch. In case of winning him, the Armenian wrestler will face Croatia’s Dominik Etlinger.

At 82 kg Sargis Kocharyan started the championship from the 1/8 finals where conceded 0:8 Russia’s Aleksandr Komarov. The Russian wrestler lost too and Kocharyan won’t be able to fight for a bronze medal.

At 97 kg Arthur Shahinyan entered the competition from the qualification round and won 4:0 Sweden Pontus Lundi, in the 1/8 finals Shahinyan’s opponent was Azerbaijani Orkhan Nuriev to whom the Armenian wrestler conceded 0:3. Nuriev was defeated by a Bulgarian wrestler in the quarterfinals and Shahinyan lost the chance to fight for bronze.

Let us recall the Armenia teams have won yet 2 medals at the European Wrestling Championship. Freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan at 61 kg became a European champion and Greco-Roman wrestler Arsen Julfalakyan at 77 kg won a bronze medal.
