Armenia’s men’s chess team head coach Arshak Petrosyan summarized our players’ games at the European Team Chess Championship and spoke about vice champion title. “Before the championship I had already said that our team had good chances to win. The competitiveness was very high and we missed at some point. Luckily, we could muster up some strength after losing to France. We fought for medals till the end. Of course, Russia’s team had got ahead much. It's wonderful that we managed to take the second place. In the game against Russia we had advantage over it and could win. After the weekend we decided to win the next games, at any price. We were gaining victories very confidently. If there were more rounds we would have better result. Hrant Melkumyan came out successfully and became a contributing member of the team. Gabriel Sargsyan played good, too and won an important victory over Russia. Levon Aronyan gladdened us winning the World champion. As for Karen Grigoryan he is a promising player”, Petrosyan said. Armenia’s men’s chess team came second at the European Team Chess Championship beating Georgia’s team. In the last round Levon Aronyan and Sergey Movsisyan gained a victory, Gabriel Sargsyan and Hrant Melkumyan played draw. Armenia - Georgia 3-1. After 9 rounds Armenia had 13 points.
