Wrestler Artur Aleksanyan – silver medalist of the European Championship

Armenia Greco-Roman wrestling team member, Olympic Games’ bronze medalist, two-time world, three-time European champion Artur Aleksanyan lost to a Russian opponent in the finals of the European Wrestling Championship.

In the finals the Armenian wrestler (98kg) competed with 2013 world champion Nikita Melnikov of Russia. Aleksanyan failed to win the rival conceding 0:4.
It’s not the first time the Armenian wrestler loses to Nikita Melnikov. He was defeated by the Russian wrestler in the finals of the 2013 World Championship and the University Games. Aleksanyan hadn’t lost since the finals of the 2013 World Championship.
On the eve the Olympic Games’ bronze medalist won 8:0 Ukraine’s Dmitri Timoshenko in the 1/8 finals. In the quarter-finals the Armenian wrestler gained advantage (6:2) over Austria’s Daniel Gastle. In the semifinals Aleksanyan defeated Turkey’s Cenk Ildem (6:2).
