World Championship: Armenian samoists’ unsuccessful start

Armenian representatives failed to win medals on the first day of the World Sambo Championships started in Cheongju, South Korea.

On 8 November Tigran Kirakosyan (52 kg), Rafik Manukyan (68 kg) and Grigor Sahakyan (90 kg) entered the mat of the sports sambo event while Mavrik Nasibyan (74 kg) performed in combat sambo.

Minsk 2019 European Games winner Tigran Kirakosyan performed better than other members of the Armenia team. He started the struggle from the 1/8 finals and after winning his Azerbaijani and Mongolian rivals lost the semifinals to Kazakh Bolatbek Raimkulov. In the fight for bronze Kirakosyan suffered defeat from a Korean opponent and placed 5th.
The Armenia team is taking part in the World Championship with 11 athletes. On 9 November Armenia’s only female representative Sose Balasanyan will compete at 52 kg and Grigor Mkhitaryan (57 kg), Arsen Ghazaryan (74 kg) and Edik Petrosyan (100 kg) will perform in the sport sambo event.

On 10 November Maksim Manukyan (62 kg) and Davit Grigoryan (82 kg) will take part in the sport sambo competition and John Balayan (52 kg) - in the combat sambo competition.
