World and European multiple champion, Olympic gold medalist Artur Aleksanyan added a new, European Games gold medal to his medal collection.
In the final of the Greco-Roman wrestling 97kg weight class Aleksanyan wrestled with Belarusian Aliaksandr Hrabovik and celebrated victory 5:0 winning a champion title.
Artur Aleksanyan had started the competition from the 1/8 final where had won 2:1 Georgian Revazi Nadareishvili.
In the ¼ final Aleksanyan had defeated 3:1 Austrian Daniel Gastl and in the semifinal had prevailed over Russia’s Aleksandr Golovin with the same score.
In the Greco-Roman wrestling competition Armenia was also represented by Armen Melikyan (60 kg), Karen Aslanyan (67 kg), Karapet Chalyan (77 kg) and Maksim Manukyan (87 kg).
Melikyan lost in the first fight, Aslanyan suffered defeat in the fight for bronze, Manukyan – in the repechage round and Chalyan became a silver medalist.
