Armenia's boxing team member Artur Hovhannisyan launched the first competition day of the 31st Summer Olympics with defeat.

In the first bout of the men's light weight class Hovhannisyan's opponent was 20-year-old Samuel Carmona. After three rounds the Spanish boxer won 3-0.

Judoka Hovhannes Davtyan and gymnasts Artur Davtyan and Harutyun Merdinyan still have to perform on the first competition day.
